Your holiday in Les Essarts-en-Bocage invites you to enjoy wonderful visits and discover the heritage and other treasures of the Vendée countryside, as well as the superb Puy-du-Fou region. Sport and nature await you!

Les Essarts-en-Bocage

This small town is best known for its castle (Le Château des Essarts), whose ruins remain well preserved to this day. The town, which bears its name, is located in the heart of the Vendée countryside, a region of gentle rolling hills offering numerous hiking trails suitable for all levels. It also opens onto beautiful landscapes and vast meadows, perfect for enjoying a breath of fresh air. To sample the local cuisine, visit the market held every Wednesday. If you wander through the narrow streets of the town centre, you will have the opportunity to discover Parc Saint-Michel, a vast space covering more than 6 hectares and home to a sumptuous manor house. It is ideal for family outings and picnics. You can also admire the Romanesque-style St-Pierre des Essarts Church.

Le Château des Essarts

Are you looking for an outing that will delight the whole family? Head to the Château des Essarts! A veritable leisure park, the château offers a whole range of fun activities based on the history of France and the Vendée region. Located just 1 km from the campsite (a 15-minute walk), the first stones of the Vieux Château des Essarts were laid in the Gallo-Roman era. Today, part of the château is still visible, the original building having suffered damage during the many wars in the Vendée region over the centuries. Since 2002, it has been possible to visit the site and admire the ruins. Activities and guided tours are available. Outside, no less than 25 hectares of greenery await you: this magnificent 19th-century landscaped park is home to many species of trees (lime trees, chestnut trees, cypresses, etc.), most of which have stood the test of time. Traditional games are available throughout the park. Other one-off events and activities are offered from April to September.

The Puy-du-Fou Theme Park

Have you got your tickets yet? The campsite offers a peaceful setting for your stay in the Vendée. Voted the best theme park in the world, Puy-du-Fou (35 minutes away by car) is famous above all for its many live shows, whose staging will impress young and old alike. It is also a vast natural space where you can encounter animals, village reconstructions and more. A real dive into history! Allow a whole day to enjoy every attraction in this theme park. It would be difficult to visit the park and miss its most famous show: the Cinéscénie! This open-air production traces the destiny of the Maupilier family from the Middle Ages to the Second World War, combining real events and legends, all brought to life by incredible sound and light effects. Don’t miss a thing…

Fishing and nature

To enjoy the green spaces, head to the Etang de la Rabretière lake, 4 km from the campsite. There are facilities for picnics around the lake. This is the ideal spot for fishing enthusiasts. Walks and relaxation are the order of the day! Get away from it all by exploring the hiking trails offered by the 252 hectares of greenery in the Forêt Domaniale de l’Hébergement, starting from the commune of Les Essarts.

Town of La Roche-sur-Yon

Founded under Napoleon in 1804, this town is steeped in history and cultural and natural heritage, located in the heart of the Vendée region. Between town and countryside, there is so much to discover. Its town centre is built on a rocky promontory overlooking the River Yon. Ideal for exploring on foot or by bike, discover its hidden corners and numerous parks and gardens. Also a cradle of culture, you will find museums (Musée de la Roche-sur-Yon, Musée du Chocolat, etc.), historical monuments (St-Louis Church, Sacré-Coeur Church, etc.) and fun activities such as the ‘Escape if you can’ adventure, to be enjoyed with friends or family.

Where are we
heading to next?

Did you love your stay in the heart of the Vendée but didn’t have time to see everything? Don’t worry! We suggest continuing your journey a little closer to the Atlantic coast and stopping off in the Muscadet valley at Camping du Moulin (45 minutes’ drive), where you can easily set up camp! Located at the entrance to the medieval village of Clisson (20 minutes from Nantes), in a beautiful wooded area not far from the Sèvre Nantaise river, it’s the ideal place to recharge your batteries before the big dive. For families looking for that extra touch of comfort, the mobile homes are open all year round! So, ready to hit the road again? Let’s go!
